Opening of the project for Providing reproductive health services to flood victims in Golestan province

Representatives from Russia and Kyrgyzstan visited Mikhak shelter for women

On April 10, 2019, representatives from Russia and Kyrgyzstan, accompanied by the chairman of the Iranian Social workers Association, experts from the Tavallode Dobare Charity and representatives of the Tehran Municipality, visited the FHA's Mikhak shelter for women. During the visit, the CEO and officers of the Family Health Association or Iran presented the services of the center and how to provide the services to the clients.

Providing reproductive health services to flood victims in Golestan province, especially the Aghqla and Gonbad Kavous areas

Women and girls are one of the most vulnerable groups in a crisis that not only suffer from the occurrence of an initial incident, but also suffers from major problems in accessing to their specific reproductive health needs due to the damage to the infrastructure; consequently, the risk of female-specific illnesses increases dramatically. Family Health Association of Iran run a project for providing primary health services to flood-affected people in the regions of Aq Qala and Gonbad-Kavoos and the surrounding villages through a mobile clinic specially equipped for midwifery examination and delivery of reproductive health services. During this project, a team of specialized and experienced staff including a midwife, a general physician, and a psychologist, along with the mobile clinic, equipped with all the initial medications and supplies, goes to the places which due to the distance or any other reasons, may have less access to medical services.

The opening ceremony of Mikhak shelter for women

In order to provide services to vulnerable women in Tehran, Family Health Association of Iran, in collaboration with the Social Services and Welfare Organization of Tehran and the municipality of district 12 of Tehran, launched the Mikhak Shelter for Woman from the beginning of January 1397 and provided services to this group of women, both daily and nightly. On March 19, 2019, the official opening ceremony was held with the participation of Ms. Shahindokht Molaverdi (former Special Assistant to the President for Citizenship rights and Vice President of Iran for Women and Family Affairs), Dr. Nahid Khodakarami (member of the City Council of Tehran), UNAIDS country coordinator of Iran, representatives of the Ministry of Health and Medical Education and Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and Mayor of region 12 of Tehran. Participation of FHA Iran's Patron in 40th session of Human Rights Council at Geneva and reading statements

40th sessions of Human Rights Council held on 25th February to 22nd March 2019 at Geneva. Dr. Shahriari Afshar participated in this session as FHA Iran’s representative. In this regards, she read oral statements of association. Also, we upload written statements on council’s site.

On the occasion of 40th anniversary of Islamic Revolution of Iran, FHA Iran’s museum was opened. This program was held with presence of Dr. Shahriari Afshar, Patron, Dr. YazdaniPour, President, Ms. Fathi, CEO, Ms. Gooshe, Treasurer, Ms. Nejadmansouri, Youth member of EXCO and staff of central office. Holding “Introduction of UN-ECOSOC and the role of NGOs in UN-ECOSOC mechanism” workshop

FHA Iran held “Introduction of UN-ECOSOC and the role of NGOs in UN-ECOSOC mechanism” workshop for building capacity of volunteers, staff and representatives of other NGOs on 21st January 2019 in central office of FHA Iran. This workshop was started with welcoming and introducing of workshop by Dr. Shahriari Afshar (Patron of FHA Iran). Then, Dr. Enayati started her teaching. Representatives of EXCO, volunteers, representatives of six NGOs and staff of FHA Iran participated in the workshop. Educational content of workshop are as follow: -Introduction of UN-ECOSOC -Introduction of Human Rights Council (HRC) -Registration for HRC -Writing and submitting statements for HRC -Taking time for reading statements -How to achieve UN-ECOSOC -Writing and submitting quadrennial report Also, this workshop was along with asking questions and doing group works. At the end of workshop, assessment forms distributed among participants and all participants received certificate.

Holding educational workshops at Fardis prison

FHA Iran sign a MOU with State prisons and security and corrective measures organization at March 2018 in order to hold educational workshops for all prisoners (men, women and below 18 years old) at Fardis prison. Therefore, FHA Iran held educational workshops about HIV/AIDS and life skills in July to September 2018. In this regards, FHA Iran held 24 sessions and we trained 700 prisoners. Some of important subjects in workshops are as follow: -distinction between HIV and AIDS -Definition of HIV and AIDS -Prevention and treatment of HIV -Symptoms of HIV and AIDS -HIV tests -People at risk of HIV -Different kinds of communications -Stress in life the ways for dealing with -Self confidence -Making decisions Also, we distributed pretest and posttest among participants in many workshops. Holding “Women Health, HCV and partnership of organizations” scientific panel of FHA Iran in the 3rd International Congress of Minimally Invasive Gynecology & Obstetrics

Panel of FHA Iran was held on 19th December 2018 at Razi international Conference center, Tehran, Iran. Coordinator of panel was Dr. Shahriari Afshar. Other panelists are as follow: Dr. Alavian, Dr. KhodaKarami, Dr. Abedini, Dr. Tashakorian, Dr. Salahshoori and Dr. Ramezani. The Family Health Association of Iran joined the World Hepatitis Alliance

Activities done by Family Health Association of Iran for advocating and providing services for people living with hepatitis, made it eligible to be a member of World Hepatitis Alliance. FHA Iran is the second Iranian Association who received membership certificate of WHA. The 31th volume of “Hep Voice” monthly magazine, while announcing this news, introduces FHA Iran as follow: “The Family Health Association is a full member of International Planned Parenthood Federation and also benefits from special consultative status in the UN-ECOSOC. For the past two years they have held hepatitis screenings that are mostly aimed at high risk women in the poorest neighbourhood of Tehran. With the help of donors and medical facilities, they also assist in getting people access to treatment.
